When Is It Time to Call for pest Control Services?
pest infestation is a common dilemma among many households in America, but only a few homeowners are actually aware of that fact. In fact, most people only notice their pest problems when it’s already too late, which is a shame since pest-related problems can be prevented if diagnosed early on. The signs can be subtle. But if you learn to look for it, you’d be able to trace them without professional help. However, proper pest control interventions will require the assistance of trained experts. But this is another issue for another post. If you wish to know when it is time to call pest control specialists to help you out, here are some of the clues you should watch out for.
a. Gnawings. If you find wires or pieces of articles that have been recently chewed up, you can most certainly expect that your house is already harboring a few rodents. If you have rats, you will determine it through the destiny serrated edges they produce. Mice often make smoother edged holes. Of course, if you find grains and other types of food chomped up near corners, this is also an indication that the rodents you have are already getting into your pantry.
b. Droppings. This is probably one of the most reliable signs of pest infestation. And it is the primary thing pest control experts look for to identify the kind of pest that is invading your home. For example, rat feces usually are spindle-shaped and grouped together. Those of black rats are sausage-shaped and smaller. Mouse droppings, on the other hand, are minute and a bit shiny while bats have usually dark brown or black feces that are 4 to 8mm long. If they are found on a daily basis, that implies that the pests you have are building a nest and breeding. But if they are already hard and a bit dull looking, that could also indicate that colonies were just passing through.
c. Tracks. You don’t have to undergo professional training to be able to find pest footprints within your home. If you look around your basement or attic, you will be surprised at what you find on the dusty floor. Technicians typically use this sign as well to determine the species of the pest that are in your house. And the location tells a lot about where they are staying and what their activities are daily. Footprints are also indicative of active infestation since old ones usually get covered up after a day.
d. Noises and sightings. Obviously, if you see rats or ants running through the corridors of your home, or hear something rummaging through your trash cans or garage, you can bet that you have pests living with you and trying to take over. Some of them, like termites, may not be readily observable. But if you find sawdust or wood waste coming from unknown places, you can bet that they are there, eating up your home’s structure. So don’t hesitate to call up an extermination service shortly after you confirm their existence. That way, you can keep your family safe and to protect the integrity of your belongings.
